Room Turnover Days

Last updated March 11, 2026

What Are Turnover Days?

The Room Turnover Days setting controls how many days must pass between one booking's checkout and the next booking's check-in for the same room. This buffer gives your staff time to clean, inspect, and re-stock a room before the next guests arrive.

You configure this setting under Settings > Booking Rules > Room Turnover Days.

The value can be set from 0 to 7 days.

How the Buffer Works

When a guest checks out of a room, Hookset marks the following days as unavailable for new bookings based on your turnover day setting.

For example, if turnover days is set to 2:

  • Guest A checks out on Friday
  • Saturday and Sunday are blocked (turnover buffer)
  • Guest B's earliest possible check-in is Monday

This buffer is enforced automatically:

  • During public booking checkout — guests cannot select dates that fall within a turnover window
  • During manual booking creation — Hookset warns staff if a date conflicts with a turnover buffer
  • On the occupancy calendar — turnover days appear as gray blocks between bookings

Setting Turnover Days to Zero

Setting turnover days to 0 means back-to-back bookings are allowed with no gap. Guest B could check in on the same day Guest A checks out.

This is appropriate when:

  • You have dedicated housekeeping staff who turn rooms over on the same day
  • The room checkout and check-in times are staggered (e.g., 11am checkout, 3pm check-in) and you manage the timing operationally

Why This Setting Matters

Without a turnover buffer, it's easy to accidentally double-book a room between a late checkout and an early check-in, or to commit to a next-day arrival before the room is ready. Setting a realistic turnover day value protects you from those scenarios and reduces last-minute scrambles.

Tip: If you run a large lodge with rooms that require less preparation, set turnover days to 1. For remote wilderness lodges where linen, restocking, and deep cleaning take multiple days, a setting of 2 or 3 is common.

Per-Room vs. Global Turnover Days

The Settings > Booking Rules turnover day setting is a lodge-wide default. It applies to all rooms unless you override it at the room level.

To set a different buffer for a specific room:

  1. Go to Settings > Rooms.
  2. Open the room you want to adjust.
  3. Set the Turnover Days Override field to the desired value.
  4. Click Save Room.

A room-level override always takes precedence over the lodge-wide default.

Note: If you increase your turnover days setting, existing back-to-back bookings that were previously valid may now appear as conflicts on the occupancy calendar. Review the calendar after changing this setting and resolve any flagged conflicts.
