Two settings in Settings > Booking Rules control how guides are scheduled: rest days and shared guide assignments.
Guide Rest Days
The Guide rest days setting (0-7) defines the minimum number of days off a guide gets after their last trip day before being assigned to a new trip.
- 0 -- No enforced rest. Guides can work back-to-back days.
- 1 -- One day off after each trip day.
- 2-7 -- Progressively more rest between assignments.
How Rest Days Affect the Guide Board
When a guide has worked recently and hasn't met their rest requirement, they appear on the Guide Board with a rest indicator. Auto-suggest excludes them from recommendations until the rest period has passed.
Note: Rest days are a soft constraint on the board. You can still manually assign a guide who hasn't met their rest requirement -- Hookset shows a warning but allows the override.
Example
If rest days is set to 1 and a guide is assigned on Monday, auto-suggest won't recommend them for Tuesday. They become eligible again on Wednesday.
Shared Guides (Allow Shared Guides)
The Allow shared guides toggle controls whether the same guide can be assigned to multiple bookings on the same day.
- On -- A guide can be assigned to more than one booking per day. Useful for half-day trips where a guide runs a morning and afternoon trip.
- Off -- A guide can only be assigned to one booking per day. Their cell shows as full after the first assignment.
When to Enable Shared Guides
- Half-day operations -- If your lodge offers morning and afternoon half-day trips, guides often run two trips per day.
- Multiple boats -- Some lodges have guides who manage multiple boats or groups simultaneously.
When to Disable Shared Guides
- Full-day trips -- If all your packages are full-day guided experiences, a guide should only have one assignment per day.
- Quality control -- Limiting to one trip per day ensures guides can give their full attention to each group.
How These Settings Interact
Rest days and shared guides work together:
- A guide who ran two shared trips on Monday with rest days set to 1 still only needs one rest day. The rest period is based on the last calendar day worked, not the number of trips.
- Auto-suggest respects both settings simultaneously.
