The problem
The morning whiteboard is a ritual at most lodges, erase last night's assignments, write in today's guides, hope nobody calls in sick. It works when you have two guides. It breaks down when you have eight, three different skill levels, and guests who requested fly fishing specifically.
Spreadsheets are worse. You can't see at a glance who's overloaded this week, who has the right skills for a backcountry trip, or whether you're accidentally sending the same two guides out every single day while others sit idle.
The allocation board in Hookset replaces the whiteboard with something that actually helps you make better decisions, not just record them.
How it works
Set up your guide roster and availability
Add guides with their specialties, certifications, and availability calendar. Guides can mark their own availability, or you can manage it centrally.
Drag-and-drop daily assignments
Open the allocation board for any date. Drag unassigned trips to guides. The board shows capacity, availability, and current load in real time.
Auto-suggest based on skills and fairness
Hit the suggest button and Hookset scores each guide against the trip requirements, fishing method, skill match, current trip count, and recommends the best fit.
Track trip counts for fair rotation
The board shows each guide's trip count for the month, color-coded by relative load. Below average is green. Two times the average is red. You can see unfairness at a glance.
