Split Pay for Group Bookings

Last updated March 12, 2026

Split Pay lets the primary guest divide a booking's deposit or balance among the members of their party. Each person in the group receives a personal payment link and pays their share independently.

How Split Pay Works

When Split Pay is enabled on a booking, the primary guest can invite other members of their party to share the cost. Each participant gets an email with a secure, one-time payment link for their portion. Payments are tracked individually, and the booking's balance updates as each person pays.

Enabling Split Pay on a Booking

  1. Open the booking from the Bookings list.
  2. In the Payments section, click Enable Split Pay.
  3. Enter the email addresses and names of the guests who should receive a payment link.
  4. Set each person's share amount. The total of all shares must equal the deposit or balance due.
  5. Click Send Payment Links.

Each listed guest receives an email with their share amount and a secure payment link.

The Primary Guest Experience

The primary guest (the person who created the booking) acts as the organizer:

  • They decide how to split the payment and provide email addresses for other group members.
  • They can pay their own share through the same flow.
  • They see the overall payment status on their booking confirmation page.

The primary guest is ultimately responsible for the booking. If a group member does not pay their share, the outstanding amount remains on the booking's balance.

The Group Member Experience

Each additional guest receives an email containing:

  • Booking summary -- Lodge name, trip dates, and package details.
  • Their share amount -- The specific dollar amount they owe.
  • Payment link -- A secure, one-time link to pay their share via Stripe.

Clicking the payment link takes them to a payment page where they can enter their card details and complete payment. No Hookset account is required.

Monitoring Split Payment Status

Track the progress of split payments from the booking detail page:

  • Payments section shows each split payment participant, their share amount, and their payment status (pending, paid, or expired).
  • As each person pays, the booking's total balance decreases.
  • Once all shares are paid and the balance reaches zero, the booking advances to Confirmed status automatically.

You also receive a notification when each split payment is completed.

Split payment links expire based on the booking's balance due date. If a group member does not pay before the link expires, you can resend a new payment link from the booking detail page.

Requirements

Split Pay requires:

Note: Split Pay divides the payment responsibility but does not change the booking total. The primary guest remains the contact for the booking regardless of how many people contribute to the payment.
