Payment Methods

Last updated March 11, 2026

Hookset supports five payment methods for recording transactions against bookings. Some are processed automatically, while others are recorded manually for bookkeeping.

Available Methods

| Method | Type | How It's Recorded | |--------|------|------------------| | Credit card | Manual | You record the payment manually after processing it outside Hookset. | | Check | Manual | Record when a physical check is received. Add the check number in the notes field. | | Wire | Manual | Record when a bank wire transfer clears. Add the transaction reference in notes. | | Cash | Manual | Record when cash is received in person. | | Stripe | Automatic | Recorded automatically when a guest pays through a Stripe Checkout link. |

Manual Payments

For manual payment methods (credit card, check, wire, cash):

  1. Open the booking and click Record Payment.
  2. Enter the amount and select the payment method.
  3. Add any relevant notes (check number, reference ID, etc.).
  4. Click Save Payment.

The balance updates immediately. Manual payments do not incur Hookset platform fees or Stripe processing fees.

Stripe Payments

When a guest pays through a Stripe payment link (from the confirmation email, invoice, or public booking page), the payment is recorded automatically via webhook. You don't need to enter it manually.

Stripe payments appear in the payment history with the method marked as "Stripe" and include the Stripe transaction ID for reference.

Choosing a Method

  • Use Stripe for online payments to automate recording and provide guests with a convenient payment experience.
  • Use Check or Wire for guests who prefer traditional payment methods.
  • Use Cash for in-person transactions at check-in.
  • Use Credit card when you process a card payment through your own terminal or another processor outside Hookset.
