What Are Custom Questions?
Beyond the built-in fields like wader size and skill level, you can add your own questions to the guest form. Custom questions let you collect lodge-specific information — preferred fishing spots, guide requests, merchandise orders, travel logistics, or anything else relevant to your operation.
Custom questions are configured under Settings > Guest Forms > Custom Questions.
Six Question Types
Text A single-line text input. Use for short answers: hometown, shirt size, license number.
Textarea A multi-line text area. Use for open-ended responses: "Tell us about your ideal fishing day" or "Any medical information we should know about?"
Select A dropdown where the guest picks one option from a list you define. Use for mutually exclusive choices with more than 3–4 options.
Radio A set of radio buttons where the guest picks one option. Use for short lists of mutually exclusive choices where you want all options visible at once.
Checkbox A single checkbox the guest toggles on or off. Use for yes/no questions or opt-ins: "I would like to receive lodge newsletter updates."
Multi-select A list of checkboxes where the guest can pick more than one option. Use for questions that allow multiple answers: "Which species are you hoping to target?"
Applies To
Each custom question has an Applies To setting that controls which form the question appears on:
- Join form — shown when a party member first registers via the party invite link
- Trip prep — shown on the trip prep form sent after booking confirmation
- Both — shown on both forms
Use join form for questions that need answering before arrival logistics are finalized. Use trip prep for questions that are more relevant closer to the trip date.
Adding Options to Select, Radio, and Multi-Select Questions
For question types that require predefined options, an Options list appears in the question editor. To add options:
- Click Add Option.
- Type the option label.
- Repeat for each option.
- Drag options to reorder them if needed.
The order you set here is the order guests see.
Adding a Custom Question
- Go to Settings > Guest Forms > Custom Questions.
- Click Add Question.
- Choose a question type.
- Enter the question label (what the guest will read).
- Set the Applies To value.
- If using select, radio, or multi-select, add your options.
- Toggle Required on if the guest must answer before submitting.
- Click Save Question.
Reordering Questions
On the Custom Questions list, drag any question up or down to change the order it appears in the form. Built-in fields always appear first; custom questions follow in the order you set.
Previewing the Form
Click Preview Form at the top of the Settings > Guest Forms page to see how the form will look to guests, including your custom questions in their current order and configuration.
Tip: Keep custom questions to what you'll actually use. A long form with many optional questions reduces completion rates. Prioritize questions that affect logistics or guide preparation.
