What Is a Package?
A package is a top-level category that groups similar trip offerings under one name. Think of it as the product on your menu — for example, "Half-Day Float Trip" or "5-Night Guided Fly Fishing Stay." Packages do not have a price themselves; the price lives on the variants underneath.
A variant is a specific, bookable configuration of a package. One package can have several variants to cover different group sizes, seasonal configurations, or lodging arrangements. Guests select a variant when booking, not the package directly.
For example, a "3-Night Lodge Package" might have:
- A variant for 2 guests in a double room
- A variant for 4 guests in two double rooms
- A variant for solo anglers at a higher flat rate
Package Types
When you create a package, you choose one of two types:
Fixed Duration packages have a set length (e.g., always 3 nights, 2 guided days). The guest picks their start date and the departure date is calculated automatically. Use this for standard multi-night stays and full-day guided trips.
Fixed Date packages run on specific calendar dates regardless of guest arrival. Use this for hosted events, fly-fishing schools, or specialty departures with pre-set dates.
Package Fields
When creating or editing a package you will fill in:
- Name — The public-facing trip name shown on your booking page and guest confirmations (e.g., "Full-Day Wade Trip").
- Description — A short summary of what the trip includes. Displayed on the public booking page.
- Package Type — Fixed Duration or Fixed Date (see above).
- Includes Meals — Choose from All Meals, Lunch Only, or None. This is shown on the booking detail and public page.
- Includes Lodging — Toggle on if the package price covers overnight accommodations. When on, guests will see room assignment details in their confirmation.
- Deposit Settings — Set the deposit percentage required at booking and whether deposits are refundable. These defaults apply to all variants unless overridden.
- Check-In Days — Select which days of the week guests may start this package. You can allow multiple days. For example, a Saturday-Sunday multi-select lets guests begin on either day.
Note: Check-in days are only relevant for Fixed Duration packages. Fixed Date packages use calendar event dates instead.
Packages vs. Variants
The package holds the general information and rules. The variant holds the specific configuration — number of nights, guided days, guest count range, pricing mode, and room assignment. You must create at least one variant before a package appears on your public booking page.
Tip: Keep packages broad and use variants for the details. A single "Guided Day Trip" package can have a half-day variant and a full-day variant rather than creating two separate packages.
